Default Best Items to Sell?

What do you think are the best items to sell on eBay these days? I used to sell books with some success, but now unless the book is rare I always get underpriced. I have noticed that DVDs and surprisingly, VHSs seem to do pretty well.

What trends have you noticed?

I've not had much luck selling books on ebay, except for some textbooks and some self-published items.

I had small business on Ebay for about a year. It was fun watching which items sold and those that didn't. I moved a lot of silver dolphin rings, football throw rugs, some premier jewelry pieces that are so highly marked in retail, they sold much easier if you could get a hold of the peices to sell for much less. I had a lot of luck with good book titles that had recently (even the last 5 years) been best sellers, if the books were used and I could buy them at good prices.

Deciding what to sell on ebay can be a major key to your success. You might have to do hours of research to find the right products to sell and make profit with little competition. Your research can be very different than another ebay seller. It Depends on, if you are; drop shipping, buying in bulk, or selling information or services. You will know whats best for you. Your strategy has to fit your needs.

Generally before you sell something, you want to check to see, who is selling the same items you want to sell. You also want to see if you can compete with their prices.

A few things to remember: If you see items that have a starting price lower than yours, don’t panic. There are explanations.

They could be buying more than you. If they buy 100 of them and you only buy 20. Than that person will get a better deal, which in turn, lets them sell it cheaper.

They could have a very low starting price with a very high shipping price. I am sure you have seen this before. People do this because, if your starting price is $1.00, your ebay fees would be about $5-$10 cheaper than if you started the auction at, $150.00. You’re probably wondering, how I am going to get that low $1.00 start price to get up to the price I need to get for it. I am not saying start your auctions at $1.00, this is just an example. You should be the judge of how low you start your price. But, the lower you set your starting price, the more bids you will get.

Or they are a wholesale distributor getting rid of overstock. This happens a lot.

These are the major reasons you will find an auction price lower than yours.

If the item is very hot and a lot of people sell them: Ipods, per say; There will be tons of competition. The ebay Ipods category has over 20 pages of featured auctions alone. So your competition will be every where.

Try and find a category that there is little or no competition.

Hope this helps. Check out my blog for more tips about selling on ebay.
