Default Working from home, is it good?

Hi all
I am a new member in here and I am running my own website for cheap softwares and templates.

At first I was really enjoying this time when everyone has to work outside and wake up early in the morning while I could do things from my own home and just 3 metres from my bed

However, lately I start to feel envious to others who work outside, as I am starting to get bored in front of my pc ( I spend around 8 hours a day )

And to make it even worse, I don't really take a good care of myself as I dont really come up in front of other people

I start to think will this business be replacing the conservative business coz I personally believe that some people aren't meant to be in front of PC for 12 hours a day

what do you think?

Here's the deal: Work where you want. I thought it was great first too. Then I wanted to be around people so I bought a laptop and moved to the library, coffeeshop...etc. Anywhere I gould get a good wi-fi tone became my office. Now I have several places and it also works well if I want to have a meeting...I have it at a coffeeshop!

I think the biggest challenge in working from home is the discipline to actually do the work that brings in the money, and not get sucked into playing with pets, gaming, doing chores, etc.

I like Accer's suggestion of working at the library and coffeeshop.

It is easy to get so wrapped up with what you are doing online that you do sometimes forget about 'putting you first'. Create a schedule which includes breaks for meals, possibly walks...and those walks could be in the mornings at the mall[you can interact with people there], or at a local park. Read a book on the porch, take a break and watch a movie that you have put off for a long time. One of the pluses of working from home is that you can create your schedule and tailor it to enhance your life. There is a fellow that is all over the web and his message wherever I find his post is to 'have fun at what you are doing'.

I have been working from home for a year now and I understand what Inova's feelings. I, too, have felt the same way. I have always thought that working from home is everything. I came to reflect and realize that being an extrovert **** of person, I find it real hard to sit down in front of the pc for 12 hrs and there came a point that I decided to resign from my full time job as I felt burned out working on the same tasks for at least 10 hrs a day and it was good he understood, had a talk and I asked for a break, even just for a half day sched while I take computer studies to be able to get the chance to go out and connect with people once again.

I have reflected on which job I would most probably be happy and decided that I still want to stay at home. I earn more here than when I was working outside of home. I need more time for my family and can work flex sched. I couldn't imagine myself commuting once again just like before and having to adjust to colleagues and employers and spend for uniform, clothes, etc. As long as I can go out once in a while, working from home is still best for me.

I find it helpful to take a fifteen minute break every hour. I get outside, workout, clean... anything but be on the computer.

I've got a day job and I'm building a freelance writing business on the side. I've noticed a few positives and negatives about working from home.

POSITIVES:

1) I can largely set my own schedule. If I want to take an hour off and watch Law and Order or House, I can.

2) I can turn down jos I don't want to do.

3) I can do what I love

NEGATIVES

1) My income is all up to me.

2) Starting a business requires crazy/long hours. I, too, get jealous of the folks who go home, put their feet up, and do nothing, and I don't know how long it's been since my house had a good cleaning. I haven't even had time to play with my cats!

3) It can get lonley. That's why I participate in a lot of forums, like this one, build email contacts from around the world, etc. I've never been an introvert, but when I do want to be around people, I take time off and hang out with friends or family.

4) My health has suffered. I've learned the hard way that I am my own biggest asset. If I am too sick or too tired to write, my income suffers. So, even if I'm not thrilled with the idea of proper nutrition, exercise, medications, etc., I'm starting to take better care of myself.

Good luck with your business, inova. Bad days come and go, but if you stick with it, you'll make it in the end. That's what's happened with me, anyway.

I have found, for the vast majority of people, that working from home is either VERY good or VERY bad. There seems to be little middle ground.

I used to work from home, but as I mentioned above....I now work from all over. It works better that way for me.
